Snowmobiling

During sinter, the Nebo Loop turns into one of Utah's best snowmobile trails. Portions are groomed from December through March. Elevations reach 9,200 feet, making the scenic panorama breathtaking. Trails provide access to excellent winter scenery and enjoyable play areas including the Mt. Nebo high-tops/wilderness area, and the Wasatch Range.

Here's a detailed map showing the route (pdf, 707K)

Access to the complex is provided through the Payson and Salt Creek canyon trailheads. Services along this trail are limited, and snowmobilers should plan to take extra food and fuel.

There are many ungroomed and unsigned side trails in the area. Riding in the mountains of Utah presents some unique life-threatening winter hazards. Due to the steepness of the terrain, there is a risk of avalanche in these areas and snowmobilers should take appropriate precautions.

The popular Skyline Drive snowmobile complex is just a short drive away. It offers a number of interconnecting trails along the high Wasatch Plateau, with options to connect to other snowmobile complexes for extended rides.

You can get on the Skyline Drive through several canyons; the most convenient and popular is through Fairview Canyon, just over the mountains east of Nephi.

The Utah Division of State Parks and Recreation controls snowmobile use on public lands in Utah. The Division's website has information about rules and regulations, along with maps of popular snowmobile areas.
